An unexpected business trip sent me out of town before I could finish prepping this week’s comic. When I get back, I’ll finish the job and switch this b/w version out for a color one … but in the meanwhile, this gets the job done!

Wrap Me Up!

Comic Con was a ton of fun. You can read about my exploits there over at my general-purpose blog, but I don’t have time to dwell on that … Gen Con is coming up next week, and I’ve got a lot to do before flying off to Indianapolis.

I’m going to be an Industry Insider Guest of Honor at the show this year, which means I’ll be sitting on a series of panels and seminars and generally acting like a muckitymuck. But I’ll also be there promoting my own projects. That, of course, focuses heavily on Super Genius Games and our various print and PDF products … but it also includes this:

“What’s that?” you ask? Why, it’s holiday-themed wrapping paper featuring my cartoons! Here, have another look.

Pretty snazzy, eh?

That will be available from the fine folks at Gaming Paper (booth #1429) at the show and then at friendly local game stores everywhere sometime in the fall (I’ll give you more details when they become available).

AfterCon Artshow at Comic Con

There are literally hundreds of interesting events that go on in downtown San Diego in conjunction with Comic Con, but one that I have a small part to play in is Aftercon, a gallery exhibit and silent auction to raise funds for the Shel Dorf Artist Fund.

I’m one of dozens of artists who has donated a piece to support the fund and, if I understand things correctly, my contribution will be part of the gallery show, open 8-midnight each night of the convention (July 22-24) at Suture Gallery.

This would represent my first ever gallery exhibition (something I’m not sure will happen again), so I’m definitely going to go check it out at least one night during the con. I’ll post pictures of the festivities.

If you’re attending Comic Con, or are just going to be in the San Diego area one night this week, I suggest you come check out the exhibit and support this very worthy cause.

In case you’re interested, the piece I donated was the original black-and-white art used to create the illustration found on p. 73 of the D&D Player’s Strategy Guide (the coloring was all done digitally).

Comic Con Comic

I’m a member of a cartoonists organization here in San Diego, the SCCS, and every year they have a number of events that coincide with Comic Con. One of them is a little con-related cartoon contest … and this year I decided to enter. I thought it might be nice to share the comic here, too … y’know, just for fun.

For those of you who don’t live in the area, that little sign in the background is the emblem for one of the trolley lines that runs through San Diego (a GREAT bit of mass transit, if you ask me). In fact, it’s the line that goes past the convention center and will be overflowing with costumed riders over the course of next weekend.
