This comic was originally slated to appear in Kobold Quarterly #17, and may have ended up running on the KQ website … honestly, I’m not 100% sure.

My first love is cartooning. If I had my druthers on any given day, I’d spend it writing and drawing comics. And I’ve had some moderate success doing it. However, the real-world challenges of bill paying and food gathering and shelter providing mean that I still have to give primary focus to my other pursuits–namely writing and game design. I love those too, but not as much as I do cartooning.

The good news is that so far 2011 has been a pretty successful year for the writing and game design side of things. LOTS of assignments, one right after the other. The bad news is, this has left me practically NO time for drawing of any kind, with the exception of a couple of brief commission assignments. As much as I love 10′x10′ Toon, it is something that still needs to be done during my free time … and there has been precious little of that so far this year.

The second half of the year SEEMS like it’s slowing down a bit. That’s a mixed blessing in that I DO still need the work for all those money-related reasons I talked about above … but if I have free time, I’ll be able to get back to doing these comics more regularly. Heck, I might even be able to make it back to WEEKLY … but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, shall we?

Luckily, because one of the assignments still regularly on my calendar is to do comics for Kobold Quarterly, I will have a new comic every few months. This week and next, I’m catching up on a couple of them that should have gone up a while ago. After that … well … I can’t promise you when the next time I’ll post here will be. But I HOPE it will be soon … and regularly.

I apologize, and I’m working on it. I hope to get started again in the next week or two, and to continue uninterrupted from that point on. But we’ll see what life has to say on those scores.

Anyway, I DID want to pop on and say that I’m going to be at Emerald City Comic Con this weekend, and I’m VERY excited about it! I went to the first four years of this show and LOVED it … then, during my time in SoCal, it seems to have ballooned into one of the major comic cons on the annual schedule … so I’m not even sure what to expect.

Sadly, I did not act quickly enough to get myself a booth or Artists Alley table at the show … but I DO plan to be there all weekend long. Anyone who’s interested in my schedule should watch my Twitter stream (@stannex) and maybe we can have an impromptu meet up.

In truth, the site started on January 29,2010 when I posted the first of the original, for the Web only comics. So, really, THAT is the launch date I care to remember. I’ll save the “year in review” update for then.

In the meanwhile, though, as I was making my New Year’s Day post over at my personal blog, I found that 10′x10′ Toons play an important role in my plans for 2011. I missed a number of updates in 2010 (including the New Year’s Eve comic), and I’d like to do better in 2011. My base-level goal is to make 52 weekly updates here this year, and have all of them be on time. That really shouldn’t be too terribly strenuous … but, given past performance, it will be a challenge.

I think I’m up for it.

More than that, I’m going to wait a few weeks to say. I’ve got thoughts and plans for Year 2 of this site … but I’ll talk more about those at the end of January.

Until then, I wish everyone reading this a very Happy New Year, and hope that your 2011 is filled with gaming fun and lots of laughs!
